Was 1997 the first year the mint produced platinum eagles??

Yes, and I bought them back then too.......at about $380......seems hard to believe now.

Well, I don't like to boast or show off - but because you seemed to appreciate this - let me tell you the best part of the story! (Less, even better than just the increased value of platinum.)

In 1997 my grandmother passed away. There was only a small inheritance and, divided over a dozen grand and great-grand children, even smaller.

When it came in, I decided to put it into gold - and went to the coin-shop I used to go to (since folded). My friend at the shop insisted I put it, not into gold, but into platinum. We discussed it and, because he knew a lot more about PMs than I did (tho I had invested in gold in 1979 and sold at the top in 1980, and since had rebought and still had some gold put away) - I went with his suggestion. I got ten 1 ounce coins, all placed in a tube, and tucked it away, pretty much forgetting about it.

In November 2005, I woke from a dead sleep hearing a voice in my head telling me to put my money into metals now.......and I hadn't even thought about metals in all those years, so, needless to say, it was shocking.....so I jumped out of bed, ran to the computer and looked up the prices of the metals.

Needless to say, I was shocked at the price of gold, silver but especially platinum.......it had more than tripled!!!

But that tube had not been opened in all those years, and I didn't even realize it was from the first year of issue........but I happened to show a friend of mine, who is a huge numismatic collector, and buys and sells for stores. When he looked at them his mouth dropped and he told me I should submit them to PCGS for grading.......because they are all MS 69 or 68 and have a HUGE premium as collectors coins.

PMs have always been very good to me - and I love them - and have been waiting for over 20 years for what we are about to go through.........the second, and last, PM "event" of my lifetime..........and this one is going to make the 1980 one look tiny by comparison....like Jim Sinclair and Bob Chapman, who were there at the time, I feel it in my bones.......so people buying now should have similar experiences to mine and better!

Bullion and semi-numismatics bought close to bullion price will make us all very happy!!! :clap2:

It's interesting you bring up "metals events".
I'm new to the game, and age 35.
I was wondering the other day if I'll see anything like this ever again. I pretty much came to the conclusion that my advance warning about what metals are going to do is truly going to be a once in a lifetime thing. I need to be on this bus/rocket/train!
However, I often wish I was just a little older back in '79-'80.

Well, from what I have seen and read - it seems to hit roughly every 20 years or so - but no cycle seems to be right all the time - thats just generality - and seems to last about 15 years or so. (Yes, I know, thats a five year difference - there seem to be swings or periods of movement of overlap.)

Whats most important is that you are here NOW and about to take full advantage of the persent event.

Me, I don't know - if this lasts another 10-15 years, and its another 15 years or so to the next big runup - at that point I'll be in my 80's, if here at all.........so I figure this is the last one for me.

Waiting 20 years for this coming rally in PM's. I know where your coming from Master_Ho, waiting for some time myself. I hope it works out well for both the Bullion and Numismatic metal heads.

You know, there are some things in life we hope for and some things in life we can expect..........its another Tao thing...........we hope for great weather, but we can expect, somedays, it will rain.

With this, I am not hoping - I know........I know that even if gold falls, it will falls only cause the entire economy has fallen, and even then gold will hold its valueh better than most anything, paper, stock, promises from TPTB (except maybe food and water, which we have limited storage on)..........

So while I hope the metals will make me a profit - I KNOW no matter what, there is nothing better I could have my money in!!

And when people like Jim Sinclair and Bob Chapman, who bought made their money in the metals and have basically retired, tell me the same........I am even more asssured.

As you know, - cause you are a smart one - just keep buying the dips as you can, but also buy stuff you like so you can enjoy it while you are waiting for whatever is going to happen - and we'll do fine!!
